    Hohenlohe String Quartet

    30 years Hohenloher String Quartet
The Hohenlohe String Quartet played its first concerts in 1992, and this debut has since been followed by countless others.

It’s hard to believe that the ensemble has played with an almost unchanged line-up since it was founded. The ensemble was already formed during his university days, studying and gaining inspiration from numerous greats in the field. The Melos, LaSalle and Amadeus Quartets are among them, as are members of the Alban Berg, Bartholdy and Vogler Quartets.
They are also increasingly incorporating experience from the field of “historical performance practice” into their playing, which they have gained through courses and lessons with Gerhart Darmstadt, Michi Gaigg, Hiro Kurosaki and members of the Quatuor Mosaiques.

The stages on which the Hohenlohe String Quartet has been at home for three decades can be found in England, Italy, France and throughout southern Germany. They were partnered by colleagues such as Markus Hadulla (piano), Johanna Messner (violoncello) Anna Niehaves (viola), Rüdiger Bohn (piano) and Wolfgang Meyer (clarinet).

“There are two equally remarkable circumstances that characterize the Hohenlohe String Quartet. The musicians play standing up, which is very conducive to direct contact with each other and with the audience. They also use different “tools”, classical and romantic bows, in order to do optimal justice to the compositions with their peculiarities and different historical-technical demands – to the delight of the performers and the listeners.”
Their playing has so far been documented on three CDs, some of which have attracted a great deal of attention, including some by unknown masters from their Hohenlohe ensemble home. The recording of works by Beethoven and his contemporaries was awarded the coveted “Star of the Month” by Fono Forum magazine.
