Midori Seiler

Violin

Born in Osaka as the daughter of a Japanese pianist and a German pianist, Midori Seiler grew up in Salzburg. She received lessons from Helmut Zehetmair and Sandor Végh as well as David Takeno, Thomas Hengelbrock, Eberhard Feltz and Stephan Mai.
She was a long-standing member and concertmaster of the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Anima Eterna and is now a welcome guest as orchestra leader with renowned orchestras. Numerous CD recordings for Harmonia Mundi France and BerlinClassics, such as the complete works for solo violin by Johann Sebastian Bach, the complete sonatas for violin and piano by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert document her work. The “Anna Maria di Venezia” recording of Vivaldi’s violin concertos won the Opus Klassik in 2019 as “Best Instrumental Concerto”.
Midori has performed as a soloist at major festivals and concert halls such as the Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Musikvereinssaal Vienna, etc. Midori is a professor of baroque violin and viola at the Folkwang University of the Arts.

Her love of experimenting with unusual concert formats has led to a combination of contemporary dance, electronic music and choreographed performances.
