Baroque dance

Trained in classical and modern dance in Freiburg and Strasbourg, baroque and renaissance dance in Paris with Andrea Francalanci, Béatrice Massin, Marie-Geneviève Massé.

Studied philosophy and Romance languages and literature in Strasbourg, Toulouse and Freiburg. Bernd Niedecken danced at the Freiburg City Theater and in various independent companies. In 1993, together with the musician Antje Niedecken, he founded the Erato Ensemble (music, dance, drama – with a focus on baroque theater), which has performed at numerous festivals. As an internationally sought-after performer and experienced teacher, he has worked with the most important companies for historical dance (L’Eventail, Fêtes Galantes, Passo Continuo, RenaiDanse, La Terza Prattica, Compagnie Ana Yepes) and regularly gives courses (music academies in Weimar, Trossingen, Freiburg, Zurich etc.).

Bernd Niedecken has directed numerous productions of the Erato Ensemble, including the ballet comedy Le Mariage forcé by Molière/Lully/Beauchamp and the ballets Don Juan and Semiramis by Gluck/Angiolini. He choreographed Le Nozze di Figaro and the oratorio La Giuditta at the Frankfurt Opera.
