Richard Gölz (1887-1975) was a theologian, church musician and an outstanding figure of the church resistance during National Socialism. After the First World War, he campaigned for the reform of Protestant church music and was instrumental in the revival of liturgical singing and the introduction of the chorale book. In the 1930s, he became involved in the Confessing Church and supported persecuted Christians and Jews by organizing escape routes and openly opposing the Nazi regime. He was arrested several times for his activities. After the war, Gölz worked as a pastor and continued to work for reconciliation, musical education and the development of church structures. His life is an example of civil courage, spiritual independence and a deep belief in the power of music and community. 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of his death.
